Logo

List and describe (in your own words) the 5 important steps in designing a logo.

While making a logo design making it simple is better. Also a sign that is dealing with a company does not having anything to do with what they it is, like the Mcdonldes does not have a burger for the sign. Also the size is very important. You do not want it to small so people can not read it, but you do want it big so it stands out. The colors of your logo should also go well together, you do not want colors that make you cring. Finally once you have a logo for something and it is already out there, do not change it!

Tessellation Pictures

Rectangle:

Triangle:

Which tessellation did you find more interesting to do? In what ways was it
more interesting than the other? Please explain.
I found the Triangle tessellation more interesting, because it is a picture of a random object made into a picture. I like how it just looks like a bunch of triangles, but if you look close you can see what it really is.

Look at your peers' work on the ning. Which two designs do you find the most successful? What qualities make them so successful?
I really like Tommy’s rectangle tessellation. It looks like he worked very hard on the background fitting in with the obtect. I know right away that it is a fish and it fits together well.

I also thought Samantha was very successful with her triangle design. I looked through all of them, and hers popped out the most to me. It looks very bright and fun. I can tell that they were fireworks. This was a very good piece, and came out very well.

Looking at the Grading Criteria for each design, how would you rate BOTH designs on a scale of 1-4, 4 being the highest? Please explain each grade.

I think I would give myself a 4 for triangle one. All the tessellation's are lined up perfect, and I spent a lot of time on it while following the criteria. This is a picture of a part of a phone. When they all form together it looks very different then the actual picture which is cool.

I think I earn a 3 for the rectangle. I think this because even though my picture is unique and fits well together, there is one part where the lines do not line up perfect. I like how my “duck” came out, and I made the color make it look more like a duck. In the end I think I did very well.

Tessellations Practice

What is a Tessellation?
The word 'tessera' in latin means a small stone cube, and they were used to make “tessellata”. There were pictures forming into a floor and tillings. There are many different pictures that can be put on the flooring, animals etc.

Write a couple of paragraphs describing the life and work of M.C. Escher. Pick out important facts that describe who he is, how he worked, and why he is famous.
He is known as the “father” of tessellations. He loved filling in blocks with pictures and that’s where it all started. On June 17th 1898 he was the youngest of four brothers. His family went to Wrnhem where they went to High School. He started art at a young age and was the best in his class. He was suggested to become an architect. He then got into wood and was great at that as well. He went on many trips that help him succeed and improve his work. He started doing landscaping as well. His first real tessellation was a lion in gold and silver. In 1937 a life changing event occurred, he went home to see his parents. He showed them all his designs and sketches he had made. He had numbered them and by his death had produced 137, also 448 woodcuts, linocuts and lithos and over 2000 drawings. His last tessellation was a solution to a puzzle sent to him by Roger Penrose. He then died in a home for old artists on March 27th, 1972.

Google

“What I wish for the world”
The theme of this google was freedom and world peace. Everyone should have the same freedom in life. Everyone may be different but we should all be treated the same. There is no one that is better then you, god was given you a life to live. The life you are given should not be controlled by other people it should be controlled by you. It shouldn’t be about the money or power you have because in the end none of that matters.

“What I wish for the world” The theme for this one was happiness. I wanted to put the music, love, nature, and peace all into one, because that is what I want for this world. If we had all of those things our world to me would be a happy place. For music gives you a place to get away. Love is something that puts a smile on any ones face. Peace lets everyone be who they are, and nature makes this world a picture a place you want to stay and just live. All these things would make this world a better place.

How did you improve your designs, based on the feedback that you received from your peers?
I drew my design instead because it was a little too pixel looking. I also bolding the pictures more to make them pop out more. Another thing I did was made the picture flow better so it was more eye catching.

What three important things did you learn from completing this assignment? Explain why they are important to your learning as a design student?
I learned that when your designing on the computer you must use a tool if doing letters, because it makes it a lot neater. I also learned that you cannot just finish before you get all the advice from other eyes because the more the better. Another thing I learned was drawing the pictures came out a lot cleaner then on the computer. These all helped my pictures look to their best. All of these things can help me in the long run if I were to do another assignment like this.

Listed below are the criteria for this assignment. Based on the criteria, how successful do you feel your designs are? Please assign each design a number between 1 & 4 (4 is the highest). Justify your decision for each of your designs.
I think for my peace and freedom design I got a three, because it was very neat and to the point. You also new from looking at it what I wanted for the world. I also thought that my idea on the dove was unique from the others.

On my happiness design I think I would get a four because I worked very hard on this one making it unique and neat. It may be hard to figure out what I want for the world by looking at it, because other people might not want the same thing. I drew this one as well, so it would look more my work. I thought this one came out great, because I worked so hard on it.
