Text and Image Self-Assessment

Which one of the four of your Text Designs is the most successful? In what ways?
My poultry one came out the best because I had the best idea for it, and even the colors match the photo well. The rhyme is “A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion”. I put pictures of chickens wearing poultry, and one with armor. I thought it was very funny. I worked very hard on all of them, and this one came out very well.

List some of the tools that you learned and used in this assignment. Which ones did you find the most helpful and in what ways?
I learned how to make the photo black and white, and change the coloring to a higher tint. That was very helpful and fun to make more unique. The cut out tool is also very helpful, I used that for every design. These tools helped make my picture look to its best.

With regards to Design concepts and/or Photo-shop tools, what do you think you need to know and what do you want to know?
I think I need to learn more about the creativity that can be done, because I know there is a lot more you can do with photo-shop. I like using this a lot because there are so many you can do with one photo. I want to learn how to change the coloring more, and different tools that you can use to make the photo different. I know the basic stuff, but I want to know outside of what is there.

Type Design

Are you happy/satisfied with your design? What are some of the features that make it so successful? If you are not satisfied, what would you have done differently to make it more successful?
Overall, I do like my design, my colors flow very well together. I worked hard on putting together each shape and color. The letters also blend in with the colors in the back ground. To make it more successful I could have made bigger squares so its not as scattered.

List some of the tools that you learned and used in this assignment. Which ones did you find the most helpful and in what ways?
The tools that I learned was how to blend the letters, and also how to make a split-complement. I am much more comfortable with using photo-booth. I am good at making sure I make a new layer each time. This was good practice and learning experience.

With what areas/aspects of Photoshop do you have questions? What activities would help you better understand basic design concepts, along with more Photoshop tools, tips, and tricks?
There is a lot on photo-booth. I had some problems with the text tool, and how to move the letters around more. I know there is a lot more on photo-booth, and I am excited to learn more. It was cool seeing what I can make with this program. This is a program I went in at the beginning of the year and had no idea how to work it, now I can make this.

Pop-Art

What is Pop-Art?
A genre of art that uses elements of popular culture; often uses techniques from commercial art and advertising.

Stuart Davis grew up in an artistic environment. He studied with Robert Herni and made drawing for social realist periodical the masses. All of this experience made him succeed. Later in his life he started painting words, something different. As he says “I paint what I see in America, in other words I paint the America scene.”

I like this painting because it is very different and fun. A lot of artists would not dare to make their painting this busy. It is mostly organic and colorful. This painting shows that anything can be art, and still be pretty.

Robert Indiana took any kind of design, like symbols on the roadside and made it into art. He studied a lot up on art, and went to Herron School of Art and then the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute. From there he received a Degree in Chicago. When he was in America he showed off his hard-edged painting the following years. In his work he was giving a new meaning of such basic words like; eat, love, and die.

Artist: Robert Indiana
Title: Green Peace Love
Year: 1994

This painting is a lot different then Stuarts’ painting, but it is also very pretty. It is pretty in a different simple way. It is a very calm and something you would want to hang in your room. He takes a word and makes it so strong.
